Q: Can SurfPass be interfaced with Active Directory?
A: Yes, in this mode the users list is automatically synchronized to the Active Directory's users list, and the identification of the user in SurfPass is transparent. This is the ideal solution for large network.
Q: Is SurfPass compatible with TSE / Citrix?
A: Yes, SurfPass is compatible with these systems. Each user is identified by its Windows session, and features are exactly the same than for traditional clients.
Q: Can SurfPass control applications other that Internet access?
A: SurfPass makes it possible to control individual applications (MS Office, productivity software) with white lists. In this mode, only the listed applications are authorized.
Q: How does SurfPass operate on several client stations?
A: Each client station is equipped with SurfPass, one of these acts as "server" and centralizes all parameters. A user is not linked to a machine. Whichever station which s(he) uses, it is the same user account which is updated. The supported Windows versions for the server are 2008, Vista, 2003, XP, 2000.
Q: Does SurfPass only work with Internet Explorer?
A: SurfPass does work with any browser and any Internet application. Features of filtering are exactly the same with Internet Explorer, Firefox, Netscape and Opera. SurfPass also allows to filter all Internet service (FTP, email, P2P, instant messenger...)
Q: Does SurfPass operate with ADSL, cable, ISDN modem, Wifi or router?
A: Yes.
Q: Is it possible to prevent SurfPass from blocking the local area network (Intranet)?
A: Yes. This is the behavior by default.
Q: Is SurfPass compatible with proxy server such as ISA server or Squid?
A: Yes. It is just needed to enter proxy's parameters in SurfPass configuration.
Q: If I have several machines to equip with SurfPass, must they be connected together on a local network or on a WAN?
A: It is not required but it is strongly recommended. It is the only way to centralize all the user accounts. If not, the accounts will be per computer or group of computers.
Q: Is it possible to have geographically distant stations?
A: Yes, access to the database server uses TCP/IP connection which means that the server can be accessed across Internet.
Q: How are accounts reloaded?
A: There is an administrator account dedicated to credit operations, in the form of an assistant, and that is very easy to use, only 3 clicks are enough. Accounts can also be automatically reloaded each day, week, month...
Q: What are filtering methods?
A: SurfPass uses address filtering with the black list of Toulouse and dynamic content filtering. Both can be used together or separately. SurfPass is compatible with Squid and SquiGuard lists.
Q: Can I prevent Email sending or files downloading? (mp3, zip, exe?)
A: SurfPass filters by TCP/IP port. You just have to block the corresponding
port. To prevent files downloads, you can add filtering rules like this: full
site, denied, with addresses such as *.mp3, *.zip, *.exe
This can also be applied
to P2P (peer to peer) applications.
Q: How can SurfPass be ordered?
A: The simplest way is to print the purchase order at the bottom of the "Pricing" page, and to send it to us with the payment. Delivery time is generally 15 working days, delivery included.
Q: Are there reductions for larger quantities?
A: Yes, from 15% starting from 10 units. See also the site and education licenses in the "Pricing" section.
Q: What are the differences between the trial version and the full version?
A: There is no difference, there is only one version of SurfPass. It is the absence of valid serial number which makes SurfPass operates in trial mode.
Q: What are the differences between the individual license version and the CD-ROM / manual version?
A: The CD-ROM / manual version is required for the first computer, and individual license are required for additional computers. If you have for instance 5 computers, you need to order one CD-ROM / manual and 4 additional licenses. Thus, you will not have anything to download. All site licenses are provided with a CD-ROM and a paper manual.
Q: How can products be updated?
A: You just have to download the latest version of SurfPass from our Web site download section, uninstall the previous version then install the new one. Major updates ( e.g. from version 3.x to 4.x) need new a serial number.
